Diary of a Mad Black Woman

Today I was still sick, so I decided that watching a movie I've never seen would be my new thing of the day. Thankfully, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" arrived from my Blockbuster queue.

I have to be honest; I didn't think I would get the humor. I'm about as white as chalk on a hospital bed sheet, and there's no way around that. But I was so excited when I realized I did get a lot of it! I was thrilled to see strong women characters dealing with real issues. Parts of the movie were cheesy and too good to be true, but the premise was excellent: you reap what you sow if not for the grace of God.

Professionally, I was fascinated by the accurate portrayal of the cycle of domestic abuse and baby mama drama. Men in the film seemed to have ulterior motives until you got to know their stories in depth. Children were effected by the poor decisions of their parents, but they were not a main plot feature. And a woman's journey from the bottom to the top was played out, not too quickly. I'd recommend everyone see this once.

  2. Ha ha! That reminds me of the line in Bowfinger. They convince Eddy Murphy that the only way he can get the aliens to leave earth is to climb to the top of a building, point at the space ship, and yell, "Gotcha, suckas!"
