Jenn and John stayed with me this weekend. We all went to school together in the HC, and they now live in Lansing. It's always so great to see them, especially because we only get to hang out every few months. This weekend was the first time they were able to come to Indy and see where I live now, so it was pretty exciting.
As it was Friday night, we decided to go out. We had dinner downtown at Houlihans, which was super tasty. Then we decided where to go for some drinks. Normally I go to bars for the music, and my favorites are The Chatterbox and The Slippery Noodle. Both of these are jazz/blues venues, and my friends are totally not into that. They like to dance, which is cool, I just don't really do that. As I had no other Indy bar experience, we got online and searched for a dance club that didn't look too shady or skanky.
Therapy seemed to be the best choice, so we drove off to find it. And we got lost. We ended up in the ghetto...which looked like 19th century Dickensian London. Dirty, poorly lit, lots of broken fencing, and random dumpsters languishing in dead-end streets. Wow. Thankfully, it was shitty weather, so no one was out, and we eventually found our way back downtown.
Discouraged, we decided to check out Deano's Vino, which is a wine bar I'd heard about from another friend. There we found a group of middle aged white folks watching a bad bluegrass band. BAD bluegrass. That was not our idea of a good time. We ended up at Chatham Tap with a bunch of pub-loving soccer fans, which seemed awesome at that point. :)
All in all, it was an interesting adventure, which made it a pretty good time. Nothing a Hoegaarden draught didn't fix! :)
