Bachata!

This Friday I went to this Dominican house party on the West side. Mostly I was there to hang out with my friend/co-worker. Well, we arrive and it's just this guy and his roommates, drinking and listening to super loud Bachata music.

I've mentioned before that I'm Spanish deficient. Well these lovely Dominican men didn't speak much English. This means I have no idea what they're saying to me. My friend starts dancing with someone, and this random middle-aged balding guy decides he wants to dance with me. That's cool, I'm always up for new things, especially new cultural things. But Bachata is a dance done very close to your partner, and I don't understand that because he explained it to me in Spanish! Thankfully, my friend took me aside when she noticed I was uncomfortable. After she explained the dance steps and the attitude behind the dance, it was all good.

Except that I didn't know how to tell my dance partner that I was tired and wanted to stop. So I spent three full hours dancing! I am SO SORE!

Here's a video of Bachata:
