Getting Off My Ass

I just realized this weekend that I don't really have a life. I rely a lot on my friends to make me happy, and I get upset when they're too busy to hang out with me. I talked to a friend about being happy with oneself and going after one's own goals. I've been frustrated with the suspended animation I've experienced during the last year, but I'm realizing it was sort of self-imposed.

So today I requested information on grad school. The University of Indianapolis has a Master's program in Applied Sociology. The coursework will mainly concern social theory and sociological research methods. I'm considering the Community Leadership Concentration, which includes grant writing, urban/community studies, and leadership in social organizations. They also have courses on Social Welfare Policy and Services and program development. Sounds like the logical next step in my education.

I also applied to volunteer with a girls' empowerment organization. Girls' Inc. does a summer day camp for 6-14 year olds. They focus on self confidence, self defense, money management, careers, women's history, world cultures, media criticism, and healthy living. Awesome! I'm excited to participate.
