Today I looked up
while pumping gas and noticed
a flock of birds migrating. They swarmed
over the tops of buildings and gathered on trees
to take brief pause on their journey.
Today I drove past
the men's homeless shelter and noticed
two figures huddled among blankets in
the doorway of a nextdoor business.
Times are hard even if you
don't own stock.
Today I bundled up, walked to
the library and noticed
a woman trying to return a book to
the broken computerized deposit box. She
wiped the rain out of her eyes and
squinted at the poorly placed
sign insturcting her to use the
antiquated night drop slot.
Sweet observations, but bittersweet.
